In October 2020, ERWAT gave a progress update on the repairs to damaged module 3. 6 recommissioned bio-settling tanks were to be operational in December 2020 (completion of Phases 1a and 1b). In a February 2021 update, ERWAT has informed us that, although Phases 1a and 1b are 95% complete, completion has been delayed until June 2021. The delay is as a result of redesign/changes that were made to accommodate the findings of a geotechnical investigation recommendations and the Council of Geo-Science recommendations and the subsequent request for a variation order. The completion of Phases 1a and 1b will hopefully assist with the discharge from the treatment plant which currently is non-compliant.
According to the February update:
Phase 1c of the project (refurbishment of module 3) is out on tender, and on track for completion at the end February 2023
Phase 2 of the project (building of a new PST (primary settling tank) for module 3, lining of emergency ponds, and the upgrading of the CoE pump station) will be ready for tendering at the end of February, and on track for completion in June 2023.
